which are more economical heaters – oil column heaters or reverse cycle air conditioners?

Reverse Cycle Air Conditioner

which are more economical heaters – oil column heaters or reverse cycle air conditioners? I have a 15 column oil heater operating at 2400W or an air conditioner which all I can see on it is 2000W. Which will be more economical to run. I know air conditioners provide almost instant heat, but when you turn them off they can get cold quicker.

What do the controls on my air conditioner unit do?

air conditioner

I have an air conditioner unit. It sits on the windowsill of my apartment. The maker appears to be a registered trademark named Simplicity. The unit has the two modes, air conditioner mode and fan mode. It seems to have a control for three speeds, high, medium and low. Then there is a control to make two blades glide back and forth. I should think those are to circulate the air inside the apartment here? These blades have a switch for close and open. The unit has what looks like a timer control, it is a button with a clock symbol. I guess that is so the air conditioner goes on and off at a specified hour. There are the important temperature controls. One control that has got me a little confused is a button with a picture of a pointing finger. Pressing that seems to turn off the fan or air conditioner. Is that for turning off those functions while keeping the reverse cycle air conditioner unit
active? The power on/off switch I understand. Any information is welcome to illuminate my understanding.

Getting rid of bugs around air conditioner?

air conditioner

A bird laid a nest under our window air conditioner and before we realized the eggs hatched so we left the nest and are waiting for the birds to leave. We covered the ac inside with plastic just to make sure nothing came in. Recently there has been a large amount of very small bugs inside the plastic and all over the air conditioner. Does anyone know what they are? How to get rid of them? I thought maybe bird mites but I read that they are invisible to the naked eye.

Can a window unit air conditioner be placed and used indoors?

air conditioner

My husband and I inherited a large window unit air conditioner from a relative who recently passed away. Unfortunately, it is too big to be able to place on the only window we have in our apartment, and unfortunately the apartment doesn”t have air conditioning, only heating.

Is there a way to still be able to use the reverse cycle air conditioner unit
, placing it somewhere indoors?

This is something totally new to both of us, and don”t know what to do.

Is there a way to block a permanently installed air conditioner without blocking the air flow?

air conditioner

I’m trying to rearrange my living room in my apartment, and I’d like to put my sofa against a wall that has a permanently installed air conditioner built into it. Is there a way I can do this without affecting the air flow of the air conditioner? Maybe something along the lines of an attachable scoop or something, to redirect the air? Or I don’t know, SOMETHING that’ll allow me to use that wall for furniture!

My central air conditioner died at the start of triple digit temperatures. Should I repair or replace?

air conditioner

My central air conditioner is 20 years old, although I replaced a $600 part about 3 years ago. Is it time to replace the entire unit and if so, what brands are best in terms of reliability and “energy star” efficiency? Should I use single room units instead? I would be happy without having the whole house cool, if that would be more energy efficient. I live in Pasadena, southern California, if that makes a difference.

A few weeks ago I noticed water condensing around the reverse cycle air conditioner vent
s in my car when running the AC. And now the air conditioner will not blow cold air. The power of the air flow has not changed and the heat works fine. Any ideas? Does it just need Freon or is there maybe a bigger problem? Thanks so much!
